Job search assistance and displacement effects: Evidence from a randomized experiment

This project studies early interventions for unemployed Swedish job seekers using a large-scale randomized social experiment. The project compares three types of meetings, including individual meetings with caseworkers, distance meetings using IT or telephone and group meetings. We use a two-level design with randomization over both local public employment offices and over job seekers which enables us to estimate both treatment for treated job seekers and displacement effects for non-treated job seekers. An important part of the project is to analyse the mechanisms behind the observed effects. Possible mechanisms include education and support, increased monitoring and vacancy referrals from caseworkers.
