How does access to disability insurance affect immigrants’ labor-market outcomes and incomes?

Immigrants’ entitlement to disability insurance has historically depended on factors such as citizenship and international social security agreements. In this project, we study the effects of becoming eligible for disability insurance among immigrants. We examine effects on program participation, employment, labour earnings, and disposable income, as well as whether the effects differ across groups. We also study whether changes in access to disability insurance affect other family members.
